Description

An industrial conveyor type weight checking machine, also known as a checkweigher, is an automated system used to verify that a product's weight is within a specified acceptable range. It's a crucial piece of equipment in many production lines, ensuring quality control and regulatory compliance.

How It Works

A typical checkweigher consists of three main parts:

  • Infeed conveyor: This section separates products and feeds them at a consistent speed onto the weighing conveyor.

  • Weighing conveyor: This is the heart of the system. It uses a load cell to precisely measure the weight of each individual product as it passes over the belt. This process happens in real-time and is incredibly fast, allowing for high throughput.

  • Outfeed conveyor with a rejection mechanism: Based on the weight data, the machine's control system determines if the product is within the acceptable weight range (known as the "target weight" with an allowed "tolerance").

    • Underweight or overweight products are immediately diverted from the production line using a rejection mechanism. This can be a push arm, an air jet, or a drop-down conveyor.

    • Correctly weighted products continue down the conveyor to the next stage of the production process.

Key Features and Applications

Checkweighers are highly versatile and come with various features tailored to different industries and applications.

  • High Speed and Accuracy: Modern checkweighers can process hundreds of items per minute with a high degree of precision, often down to a fraction of a gram.

  • Data Logging: They can collect and store statistical data on product weights, which is essential for quality assurance and meeting legal requirements. This data helps manufacturers monitor trends and optimize their filling or packaging processes.

  • Integration: These machines can be seamlessly integrated into existing production lines, often communicating with other equipment like fillers or metal detectors.

  • Applications: They're used in a wide range of industries, including:

    • Food and Beverage: Checking the weight of canned goods, packaged snacks, and bottled drinks.

    • Pharmaceuticals: Ensuring the correct weight of pill bottles or blister packs.

    • Cosmetics: Verifying the fill level of lotions, creams, and makeup.

    • Chemicals: Checking the weight of industrial chemicals or cleaning products.

In short, a checkweigher is an indispensable tool for automated quality control, ensuring that every product that leaves a factory floor meets its specified weight, protecting both the consumer and the manufacturer.
